Terms of Service
Last updated: August 25, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Canadian Formatters ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. They are short, and the most important one is first.
1. We are not a law firm
Canadian Formatters is a document preparation and case organization tool. We are not a law firm, and we are not lawyers or paralegals. Nothing in the service is legal advice. That includes form suggestions, guidance text, and AI-assisted features. Using the service does not create a lawyer-client or paralegal-client relationship.
You are responsible for your own case. Before you file, confirm that you have the correct forms and that you filled them out correctly. Check with a lawyer, a licensed paralegal, or a court clerk. If you need legal guidance, speak with a licensed professional or contact Legal Aid Ontario.
If you are a lawyer or paralegal using a professional account, the same section applies. The service is a preparation tool. Your professional obligations to your clients and to your regulator remain entirely yours.
2. The service
The service lets you build a case profile, organize your court forms, and generate documents from official Ontario court templates. On the professional plan for solo practitioners, it provides the same tools across a portfolio of client cases. We track the versions the courts publish and update our templates to match. The courts still change their forms and requirements from time to time. Before you file, you are responsible for verifying that a form is the right one and the current one (see section 1).
3. Your account
- You must be the age of majority in your province to use the service.
- Keep your login credentials secure. Your account holds sensitive case information.
- Provide accurate information. The documents you generate are only as accurate as what you enter.
- One account is for one person, or one organization on an organizational plan. Do not share accounts.
- On a professional account, you may enter information about your clients and their cases. You may also send a client a link to enter it themselves. You are responsible for having your client's authority to do that, and for what you do with the documents you prepare.
- An intake link works for whoever holds it. Send it to your client and to nobody else. You decide what to accept from what comes back, and nothing a client sends changes a case until you apply it.
4. Pricing, billing, and cancellation
- The professional plan for solo practitioners is $30 CAD per month, and it is the only paid plan we currently offer. It includes up to 10 active cases. Each additional active case is $5 CAD per month. A case counts as active unless you archive it. An archived case can always be opened and exported. Making changes to it requires restoring it to your active cases. Subscriptions renew every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for, and we do not bill you after that. None of this applies while you are on free beta access or another written arrangement.
- Personal accounts are free during the beta. When personal subscriptions start, the core tool will cost $15 CAD per month. That will cover your case profile, form organization, and document generation, on the same renewal and cancellation terms as above. We will tell you in the app before anything is charged.
- Clinic and organizational licensing is arranged individually. Contact us if your organization needs it.
- The AI-assisted features are optional and separate from the core tool, which works fully without them. We will announce their pricing before launch. You will never be billed for them unless you opt in first. During the beta they are included at no charge.
- If we change pricing, we tell you in the app. You see it the next time you sign in, before the new price affects you. We do not send pricing notices by email. See section 12.
- You can export your data at any time while you have an account, and during the seven-day window after you ask us to delete it. Once that window closes the data is permanently deleted and can no longer be exported. Export before you delete (see the Privacy Policy).
5. Your content
The information and documents you put into the service are yours. You grant us only the limited license we need to store and process them so the service can work for you. One example is filling your data into a form template you asked us to generate. We claim no other rights in your content.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for anything unlawful, or to prepare documents you know to be false or misleading.
- Access or attempt to access another person's account or data.
- Probe, disrupt, or overload the service, or attempt to bypass its security.
- Scrape the service or resell access to it without our written agreement.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
7. Intellectual property
The software, design, and content of the service (other than your content and the official court forms) belong to us. The court form templates are official documents of the Ontario courts. We provide tooling around them and claim no ownership of them.
8. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We do not warrant that any court will accept the documents you generate. We do not warrant that the service fits your particular legal situation. Section 1 applies to everything.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages. We are also not liable for the outcome of any legal proceeding. For any claim relating to the service, our total liability is limited. The limit is the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some provinces do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Termination
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. That includes professional accounts. Deletion takes effect immediately and becomes permanent after seven days, during which you can restore the account. If you own a clinic or team account, contact us instead. Deleting it would erase other people’s files, so we handle it manually. We may suspend or terminate the service or your account if you breach these terms.
If we discontinue the service for any other reason, we will give you reasonable notice and the opportunity to export your data.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. The courts of Ontario will resolve any dispute.
12. Changes to these terms
We tell you in the app when we make material changes to these terms. A change is material when it alters what the service does or what it costs. It is also material when it alters what we may do with your account, or what you agree to by using it. You see the notice the next time you sign in, before you carry on using the service. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
